A quilted mattress pad does two jobs a flat protector does not: it adds a layer of fibre that softens a firm mattress and absorbs the wear of rotation, and it raises the pad depth to 25 cm so the fitted sheet stays taut on tall mattresses. The terry finish is the hotel one, breathable and double-sided; terry with PVC adds the waterproof barrier for care homes and children's beds; microfibre is the lightest to wash.
